Ten to the negative ninth meters is a measurement on the nanotechnology scale, and the reason Nanotechnology Day falls on October 9. Nanotechnology is the imaging, measuring, modeling, and manipulating matter that is one-billionth of a meter or less in size. This is the realm of atoms and other microscopic entities. Nanotechnology works with both inorganic and organic materials, and is the next phase of science going smaller after microtechnology and microbiology.
Nanotechnology Day was created in 2016 and serves to raise awareness of the science and show how it impacts our daily lives.
